Time Out

Time Out - Watercolor Batik on Rice Paper - 16X12 - NFS

A gift for a friend who did me a HUGE favor.

She loves elephants.  This is a painting repeat, but it's what she wanted.
Thank you, Jan.

    1. Thanks, Nancy!

I mixed a few colors, but here are a couple I used straight up: Ice Blue, Dr. PH Martin's Radiant Concentrated Watercolor (liquid). The radiant watercolors and the regular liquid watercolor paints are really intense - some are pretty tough to lift. With this color, I used it both diluted with water and some diluted with a little white gouache. The darker blues are Slate Blue - Radiant Concentrated Watercolor (it's a denim color which I also heavily diluted with water) and WN ultramarine blue. I also used Cheap Joe's American Journey Professional Watercolor in Sky Blue in a tube. My husband took a Janet Roger's workshop and she recommended a few colors from this line. They're actually pretty nice. Thanks for the tip on the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust. WOW!! I'm in love with theses beauties. Really appreciate that, Nancy!!

      Thanks for the tip on

  14. Such a great gift - do you go to the Portland Zoo a lot? I was there (in Oregon - I was 9) when Packy https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Packy_%28elephant%29 was born. He is still there! He is very tall!
    Cheers to elephants!

    1. Thanks, Teri. Haven't been to the zoo in a while. I was still back in Michigan when Packy was born & it was at the Detroit Zoo that I made the sketch of the elephant in this painting. I'll be sure to visit Packy - thanks for the link!
