The Sixties

Wild Thing / Watercolor & pencil / 7X5

A revolution occurred in music in the 60's with the British invasion of America.

Even so, I was born in Detroit and would live in the city for 43 years.   The new music was exciting, but my heart belonged to Motown.

Motown was an American record company founded in Detroit 1959.    It was started in a house where the garage was converted into a small recording studio; the kitchen into the control room.  The company's first million record seller happened the following year & was a song by the Miracles called "Shop Around."

A few of the Motown family of artists included the first "girl groups" like the Supremes, and other singers such as Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, Gladys Knight & the Pips, Lionel Richie & the Commodores, and the Jackson 5.  My favorite group was the Temptations; the song "My Girl."

The 70's approach...

  4. I loved the Temptations! The other artists that you wrote about had some great music, too. "Wild Thing" is the perfect girl to represent that decade. I'm looking forward to the seventies!

    1. Thanks, Candy. The 70's will be the last one (can't find much music I like in the 80s-90s. My age is showing.)
