30 Paintings in 30 Days Challenge - #30

Well, I enjoyed the challenge, but I'm glad its over.  Really, I did more sketches than paintings, but I'm happy with that considering it's been quite a while since I've done any artwork (other than doodles).

What I appreciate even more, though, is reconnecting with blogging friends & making new friends.   I hope to keep posting about twice a week, and am looking forward to exploring other artsy directions.

Congrats to all who participated in the challenge.  And a sincere thank you to everyone for the extremely kind and supportive comments!

30 Paintings in 30 Days Challenge - #24

Watercolor - 7X5

One of my former watercolor teachers adopted a new teaching strategy one day after commenting that her students' artwork was getting a little tight.

She replaced our pencils with waterproof Sharpies, grabbed a timer, and told us we had 30 seconds to put down a few lines prior to painting.  As we got better, the time decreased to 15 seconds per drawing.

We did timed warm-up exercises of simple drawings for the first half hour of every class, and eventually overcame the fear of the dreaded timer.  In fact, I have forgotten how much fun the exercises were until now.

I did a second little painting today, but it was quite stinky & went onto the other pile.

30 Paintings in 30 Days - #'s 22 & 23

If I had my life to live over, I would run a world class animal sanctuary devoid of all political and
celebrity endorsements.   Of course, then I would have to be independently wealthy,  but that's what I would do.

Two more for the menagerie.  Think I'll just finish off the challenge with animals - they're my favorites anyway...

30 Paintings in 30 Days Challenge - #21

Watercolor - 5X7

What's that faint sweet smell in the air?

I think it's the end of the challenge.   And it's bittersweet, really.  I've enjoyed getting back into art.

Not sure what I'll do for the duration- maybe a few more of these.

Nine paintings left...

30 Paintings in 30 Days Challenge - #18

7X5 - Watercolor

Still feeling a little under the weather, so I thought I'd do something simple.

During a former watercolor class, the teacher frequently passed out twigs and inks and instructed us to draw with the twigs.   I drew this with thinned black acrylic paint and then laid down a flat wash.

Number 18 is almost finished, but not quite.
I managed to catch my daughter's flu bug, so off to bed I go.

30 Paintings in 30 Days Challenge - #10

5X7 - Watercolor

Well, I've got six drawings in progress and have been trying to remind myself that "less is more."  For some reason, I'm not panicking about being REALLY behind in the challenge.

Maybe that's because I've been goofing off.  For instance, I took TWO local "crafty" classes yesterday. This is one example of why I've been too busy to paint.

30 Paintings in 30 Days - A Failed Painting

Well, I crashed and burned this afternoon and had to rip my painting, so I hope to do two pieces tomorrow.

On the bright side, though, I started a journal this morning (maybe the painting should have come before the journal).   The cover is finished and page one is in progress.  Even so, I can see things on both pages I would change already.  That's just me.

30 Paintings in 30 Days Challenge - #1

Winter Morning - Watercolor with Pastel - 12X9

We had a chilly morning here in the Pacific Northwest.  After a long walk with the dog of boundless energy, it was nice to come home to a hot cup of coffee and some friendly watercolor paint.
