Rocky

Rocky - Watercolor & Pastel / 6X6 (15.24cm X15.24cm)

Using watercolor, I had some fun painting this little guy

until he started looking like this:

A little color lifting and a few swipes of pastel saved the day.

But now I've got this stupid song stuck in my head.

And if you don't like that one, how about this?

That's okay.  You don't have to thank me :}

And for more fun art stuff,  Oregon photographer Kat Sloma is hosting her annual "Liberate Your Art" postcard swap.  Artists from 30 US states and 12 countries participated last year.

Kat accepts postcards from artists in any creative medium:  photography, painting, poetry, sculpture, cooking, ...

Here's the link if the swap appeals to you:  Liberate Your Art 2018 Postcard Swap.
March 17, 2018 deadline - lots of time.

And you CAN paint like me. You just don't know it. It is learned. It is a skill. You might never paint like DaVinci (neither will I), but you can paint.

  6. Absolutely beautiful! When younger I had taken up drawing, pencil sketches mostly, but never tried painting. You've inspired me to think again :)

    1. Thank you! Well, if you've done pencil sketches, you're halfway home. Painting is lots of fun (almost as much fun as making cookies).

My mom does oils and acrylics and is very talented. I enjoy stitching and making things with fabric. We all play to our strengths I suppose :)

  9. Oh, of course I have to thank for the sweet song Rocky Raccoon... I haven't heard that for 30 years... ah, the early Beatles!
... and I love your Rocky dog, he looks like a raccoon, actually!
In my city, Kassel in Germany, raccoons are a real nuisance, by the way. They now live in the gardens and come into the houses, right in the middle of the city!
... and a great tip with the postcard swap... I'm still thinking about.
    Best regards Ulrike

    1. Thank you, Ulrike, but don't say it's been 30 years... I can't believe it.
Adult raccoons are sometimes not so nice. but then my big dog is sometimes not so nice. He keeps the squirrels away, probably the raccoons, too.
I hope you participate in the swap so you can share your beautiful work with those who have not seen it.
      King regards, Chris

    1. Thank you, Celia. Sorry about the "Munsters," although either song can be equally annoying.
I hope you're able to participate in Liberate Your Art. It's going to be lots of fun to receive postcards from other artists.
