Memory Lane

Batik on Rice Paper / 9 X 9 (22.86cm X 22.86cm)

This small batik was done as a prelude to a much larger one that I will do in color as part of a project later this year.

The photos are from the Biltmore Estate in Asheville, North Carolina.
Tim and I spent two days walking around the grounds, but never took the house tour.

I guess we will have to go back.

I'll be away for a while, so the blog will be quiet.
See you soon.

Passion for the Past

India ink & pastel on rice paper / 10X8 (25.4 X 20.32cm)

Some of my favorite memories of Michigan were attending historical re-enactments where guests are allowed to absorb the sights and sounds of past events. Geeks like me and people all over the world have attended reenactments for centuries.

A more commercial event is the Renaissance Festival.  Here, guests are encouraged to dress in medieval garb, eat turkey legs and large pickles, and consume copious amounts of stout and ale.

All of these adventures offer great photo opportunities.  The artwork above is an example.  He was on a decorative plaque attached to a tree & not the first time I painted him.

Here is the first - about 10 years ago.
