"A" Is For Arwen

Happy New Year!

"Arwen"
Pastel Pencil

Wondering where to begin on the blog this month,
I looked to see which artists from the past were born in January.

Happily, I discovered JRR Tolkien,
author and illustrator,
was born on January 3, 1892.

Creator of Elves and Orcs, Hobbits and Ringwraiths,
Tolkien originally intended his books to be children's books
(for older children, I hope).

Anyway, I was planning that "B" would be for batik,
but the 10-pound block of wax I ordered yesterday
hasn't been delivered yet.

And this is because "P" stands for procrastination.

"Procrastination is like a credit card:
it's a lot of fun
until you get the bill."
Christopher Parker

A good reminder at the beginning of the new year...

  1. Beautiful! My granddaughter’s middle name is Arwen (yes, her whole family is crazy for Lord of the Rings and all the extras).

    1. Thanks, Rhonda. How lovely that your granddaughter has such a lovely middle name!
In my old neighborhood, the adjacent subdivision streets were named after Middle Earth kingdoms and realms :)

    God bless.

Arwen, the Half-elven is another of your atmospheric portraits, saying so much in a few lines of pastel.
Happy New Year to you too.

Procrastination...mmmm...easy to fall into that with things, but I do try and accomplish what needs to be done with the outlook that I should do what I can today, for tomorrow may never come. We just never know, do we?

  23. Bonjour chère amie,

Encore tous mes voeux... Que cette année soit riche en créativité ! Elle démarre bien avec ce joli portrait.
Je sens un regard bienveillant en lui.
Il est bon parfois de faire une pause, de prendre le temps pour mieux redémarrer.

    Gros bisous 🌸
